Just What is a Podcast Anyway?
What is this podcast jibba jabba?
Wikipedia defines a podcast as: A podcast is a media file that is distributed by subscription (paid or unpaid) over the Internet using syndication feeds, for playback on mobile devices and personal computers.
Podcasting is content on demand. Think of it as a 'radioshow' that you can download, save, and play any time you would like. Podcasts are most often available as .mp3 files. When you subscribe to a podcast, you are telling your podcatcher (see below) to download each new show as it becomes available.
What do I need to listen to a podcast?
Really--all you need is a computer, a set of head phones, and some sort of media player.
You can even play Crescent directly through your web browsah (yowsah!)
To subscribe you need some kind of podcatching software.
Some examples of podcatchers include, but are not limited to: iTunes, iPodderx, Pod2Go
Do I need to subscribe?
Nope. You can download the mp3s at your leisure. But, you might find that subscribing will make your life a little easier.
